It was a lovely sunny day at Bruton this afternoon, tempered only by a constant wind which gusted strongly from time to time. Late drop-outs following yesterday’s league cricket meant the Queries had to borrow three players from the school 2nd XI and they fitted in to the side really well and made a more than useful contribution.
Skipper Nick Bunday had arranged a match with a maximum of 80 overs, with the side batting first being able to receive a maximum of 42 overs. Queries batted first and new candidate Marcus Williams proved to be the lynchpin of the innings with a fine 71, helping the side to a competitive score of 185. Queries were all out in 40.1 overs.
The school innings was similar in that one player, Longman, crafted a super innings and carried his bat for 96 and the others chipped in however against some decent bowling and intelligent field placing, the School was not scoring fast enough. At the 32nd over with their score at 123, things looked close but they were 6 down and the tail couldn’t force the pace. They closed on 165 for 7 from 38 overs and the match was drawn.
Sam Waters and Jake Bunday both took 2 wickets apiece. Matt Burton, Marcus Williams and Nick Bunday each took one.
