Gunners Gain the Upper Hand

Queries lost out in an entertaining run chase at Larkhill. Having opted to bowl first, we were delighted when Moses Onyuro picked up an early wicket, as our seam attack caused real problems. Christian Syms grabbed the second with a return catch and Alex Farquhar was unlucky to finish his first spell wicketless. Hired Gunner Liam Fletcher was still at the crease and looking in fine touch. Sam Waters induced a miscue but we couldn’t hold on and that proved damaging. The spinners were under the cosh, though Dan Gill claimed one scalp. It was the returning Farquhar who eventually dismissed Fletcher for 136 off 101 balls. Despite fine second spells from all the seamers, the RA finished on 286-4 off 40 overs. The Queries openers both hit fine boundaries before falling early. Tom Beard and Tom Campbell steadied the ship, notwithstanding some moments of fortune for TC. They added 66 at a good clip before TC was caught. Adam Battison joined Tom B and for the first time in a long time, the Queries had the RA attack on the rocks. The pair added 101 in 14 overs, with shots all round the park before Beard was caught just inside the longest boundary on the ground for 74. Alex Farquhar kept the momentum with some blistering drives, as did Simon Campbell after Adam picked out the same long boundary for 62 off 47. We needed 10 an over in the last 8 but the lower order couldn’t keep the pace after Alex fell for 34, and we finished all out for 243 with three overs unused. A brilliant chase, great atmosphere, Jakki keeping all the details in Play-cricket and Barry in fine form in the middle. Thanks to all who played!
