In the third T20 of the opening matches of tis seaosn, we came second again: this time by 5 runs in a low-scoring match with Devizes CC. Simon Campbell writes: We had a good game at Devizes this evening, – a game of two halves. Devizes stumbled to 99 for 6 off 20, but we failed to chase it down, all out for 93. James Stevenson (4:11:2) bowled the two openers, including Dan Pirie, Oscar Fox bowled off-spin beautifully as usual (4:10:3) and Francis Naumann increased the squeeze (4:13:0). Matt Edwards and Drew Cummine produced 2 fine catches in the deep. Freddie Malec kept nicely. And James Illingworth fielded like a man half his age! Happy at the turn round, the wicket had little lateral movement but was two paced and timing the ball was tricky. 6 of us got between 10-15, but no one went on. I note a good leg-spinner, Hyslop, got a 5 fer including 3 in one over. And the bowling was relentlessly accurate. We need 13 off last, but it was too much. We retired for beer and burgers. Devizes is a club in transition, we very much look forward to seeing a new pavilion next year and it was an absolute pleasure to be back there.
