A Huge Win at Millfield

The team travelled to Street in Somerset today to play Millfield School 1st XI. What we met was a sort of hybrid XI with some Meyers XI, some of their 1sts, some 2nds and 4 1st XI girl players.

It’s a marvellous ground with a good wicket and having been put in to bat first the Queries took full advantage despite a couple of early hiccups when we lost 4 wickets for less than 50 runs. However a major partnership between Jack Bramwell and Fraser Moore made massive gains and we were eventually all out for 305 in the 43rd over (of 45). Fraser Moore was top scorer with 72, followed by Jack Bramwell (56), Tom Whiting (43), Tom Churchill (31) and skipper Joe Cranch (24).

We expected a challenge as Millfield came out to bat but were mightily surprised as wickets tumbled right from the off. Inside the first 10 overs we had taken 6 wickets and eventually the XI was all out for 114. Joe agreed that the remaining players in the Millfield squad could then bat and so the ‘game’ continued until the 14th wicket had fallen in the 43rd over with their score at 213. Joe had used 7 bowlers and 5 of them got wickets, with Dave Bromley getting 4/48, Sam Waters 3/34 and George Nash 3/29.
