A Win at Potterne

Simon Campbell wrote: “Sizzling game at Potterne today. WQ put on 392 off their 40, and Potterne replied with 260 for 8. Callum, guest from Cannings, top scored with 80 or so, Tom Beard made a fine 50, as did Savin. Seb Woodford and Tom Campbell also contributed. Jack Bramwell, oddly, was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets and everyone chipped in. Jack masterminded proceedings and the tea was fantastic. As ever, it was a pleasure to play at the batsman’s paradise!”

Jack Bramwell was leading the Queries and it is fair to say that there were a number of “friendly faces” on both sides. Queries batted first and posted a mammoth score of just under 400 runs all out, with Jack himself being run out in the last of the 40 overs.

Potterne did not manage to get close to this total and ran out of overs, 8 down, for about 254 (the score book is a little inexact with the numbers). However it was a friendly, active and hot day: tea was massive and very well received: there was a fair crowd to watch: and a pint of the amber nectar after stumps was very welcome.
