Queries batted first and marched on to post a decent score before lunch [186] and continued the movement after lunch, declaring quite early at 6 minutes past 3 with 286 on the board. Will Pascall, Max Romer-Lee and Callum Burnstone all reached half centuries, and Jack Bramwell just missed out with 49. The two school spinners Jack Grant and Henry Cox both deserve credit for their bowling, and all the 1st XI did well to “stick to their game” when Max R-L was smashing the ball round the ground.
The school reply started badly for Holland who was caught at slip off his first ball, but skipper Rahul Patel constructed a fine innings for 72 before getting caught and George Edwards anchored the innings really well for 69 runs until he unfortunately played-on a low ball. The Queries seamers, Harry and Archie Easton took 3 wickets between them, but it was the spin of Will Pascall, Cameron Garbutt and Callum Burnstone, and the gentle seam of Luke Jenks which did most of the damage, bringing 7 wickets between them for just 84 runs.
Man of the match was George Edwards for his fine performance with the bat, and how well he deserved his trophy! A wonderful day’s cricket, marvellous hospitality from the School, and the Queries are very grateful for a good match.
