Queries Open the 2021 Account with a Win

Having been prevented from playing their first two fixtures because of the weather, the Queries kicked off their 2021 season with a T20 against Erlestoke CC. Despite the obvious “rustiness” of some players, they still managed a good 6 wicket win.

Batting first, Erlestoke faced some accurate owling and found scoring difficult. A sharp catch down the legside from keeper Sean McClure, off his son Kieran’s bowling, got things going. Sean followed that with another catch and a run out. Kieran bowled his 4 overs taking 2 for 25.  Jack Grant took 2 for 21, Paul Sullivan 2 for 14 and Nick Leach 1 for 22 and Erlestoke completed their 20 overs with 98 on the board.

Queries batting took it right to the wire, reaching 99 for 4 in 19.5 overs. Jack Grant and Josh Sullivan scored steadily until Jack was bowled round his legs by the slowest of slow balls, and Josh fell victim to the “6 and out” rule. Simon Cottle was, true to tradition, caught on the mid wicket boundary, leaving Tom Fox [27*] and Kieran McClure [28] to get us almost to the line when Kieran was out lbw. 6 runs from Simon Campbell and we were home and dry.

Clearly all the players enjoyed being back on the field again, and are looking forward to a successful and enjoyable Queries season.
