The Queries enjoyed a good win at Tidworth playing an inaugural match against The Jesters CC in lovely sunny weather. Winning the toss, Queries opted to bat only to find themselves one down in the 3rd over. One became 2 in the 8th over as Andrew Stratton followed David Bell back to the pavilion, but then Peter Mountstephen and Usman Akram got their heads down, scoring slowly but safely and taking the score on to 98 when Peter was bowled for 52. Three of Usman’s next partners came and went until Conor Grant came in at 9 and immediately took the game to the Jesters, scoring a quickfire 46. When Usman was caught for 52, Hugh Norman helped Conor push the score along, enabling the skipper Dom Spencer to declare after 48 overs with the score at 210, and Conor carried his bat.
It has to be said that this Queries XI included a number of younger players and their ground fielding was great to watch. Although the Jesters run rate was similar to the Queries, at 30 overs they had 100 on the board (Queries 116), they were however 6 down. Usman, Conor, Sumith and Andrew all took 2 apiece and Toby took one. With the final wicket falling to a run out, Jesters were all out comfortably inside the distance, and Queries won by 52 runs.
Many thanks to the Jesters for the fixture which we hope will be repeated next year. Huge thanks to ForkingOut for wonderful catering, to groundsman John Law for a great track, and to Nigel Hill for scoring.
