WASHED AWAY AT FARLEY

Tonight (22nd July) was scheduled to be T20 night vs Farley but the weather had other ideas. We all got there, Queries won the toss and would bat first and Jack Bramwell and Theo Bossom opened. The bowling was lively and the bounce unpredictable, rain was looming, but we got off to a decent start. However, 40 mins into the game in constant rain, the umpires took the players off with just 10 overs played, 54 runs on the board and 2 wickets down. The innings was reduced by 2 overs, and we managed to finish the 18th over with 99 runs on the board and just 3 wickets down. Jack Bramwell had scored 34, Brian Spence 11, George Stevenson 28* and Izzy Reeve 10*. All bar Jack are newcomers to Queries cricket and will make excellent new members !

With 100 as their total, Farley went out to bat only to lose 3 wickets in 3 overs – 2 to Sam Reeve and one to Seb Robertson. After 4 overs and at 24/3 the rain became too heavy, the track became unplayable, players were called off and play was abandoned. Sam had bowled 2 overs taking 2 for 14: Seb had bowled 1.2 overs taking 1 for 10.

There then followed a Nepalese supper and a few modest libations and the hospitality of Farley was outstanding. The weather may have doused the cricket but it didn’t douse the spirits at the after-match party which was first class and for which we owe huge thanks to Farley CC. Thanks are due also to our own match manager Paul Roberts who had gathered such a promising XI together from which, with luck, we might gain 4 new members. The score card can be seen here
