We batted first, and the star of our innings was Dan Pirie who scored a magnificent 120. He reached 50 in 71 balls/75 mins, his century in 116 balls and 128 mins, and hit 20 boundaries in the process. Sadly no-one could stay with him. Only 4 other batters reached double figures with promising new discovery Sam Reeve leading the way with 24. Skipper Simon Campbell declared after 54 overs with just 217 on the board.
Then our bowling blew hot and cold: Sam Reeve bowled a tidy 11 overs, taking 1 for 42: Seb Robertson couldn’t find his rhythm and was expensive at 1 for 28 in 2 overs. Josh Kelly surprisingly bowled only 3 overs for 9 runs, George Leakey (1 for 34) and Paul Roberts (2 for 31) were effective and Dan Pirie chipped in with 3 overs taking 1 for 16. After 28 overs which was the start of their final 20 overs, the Incogs were cruising at 149 for 2, however they then lost 3 wickets for 11 runs – and Queries spirits picked up! Sadly we could not sustain the pressure and despite taking one more wicket, Incogs closed out the 42nd over at 218 for 6 with 7 overs in hand. They had won by 4 wickets.
It had been another lovely day at Tidworth, we were really well catered by ForkingOut, efficiently umpired by Kannan Jagannathan and Paul Furness and looked after as well as ever by groundsman John Law.
It was also very nice to welcome two of our senior Life Vice Presidents, Peter Salisbury and David Germain who turned out to watch the match.
