The initial game plan was a 50 over match, Queries winning the toss and batting first. In the early stages of the second innings Plan B was forced upon us as we learned that the match had to be clear of the wicket by a certain time. Bizarre cricket followed which resulted in the School securing a comfortable win by 6 wickets after 42 overs.
Our stellar-star lineup all made decent starts with the bat – Ollie Lunt 26, Jack Goodwin 19, Will Pembroke 47, Archie Pascoe 19, Callum Barton 55, Joe Cranch 46. The pace was not quick but we made it to 267 for 9 after 50. The School used 9 bowlers.
The School reply got off to a faster start, at about 8 an over, helped in large part by a mass of wides. Jack Goodwin bowled well for his 3 for 42 from 10; Harry Robbins put heart and soul into his 8 overs , one for 45 but we could not stop the School from romping home to 269 for 4.
It is a wonderful place to play competitive cricket and we hope to be back next year and with a clearer understanding of the match format. Many thanks to Millfield for their hospitality, sportsmanship and love of cricket.
