20 overs of Queries pace attack yielded just one wicket but conceded only 55 runs. 5 overs of medium slow bowling from Nick Leach induced some mistakes and yielded 2 wickets for 26 runs. 20.4 overs from the spinners, PK in particular, yielded 7 wickets and conceded 58 runs. It was a spinner’s day and the Free Foresters were in some difficulty dealing with it. At lunch they were 7 down for a little past 100 runs. Eventually all out for 186, including 27 byes, the Queries must have thought they were in the box seat when Calum Burnstone and Tom Churchill walked out to the wicket. Tom played as he always does, with a quick 27 whilst Calum got a brisk yorker which sent him back to the pavilion for a duck. Will Harries gave a dolly c&b to Jack Grant at 28 and it was Will Pascall who anchored the innings and played a near flawless 99 for 2 hours. Luke Jenks stayed with him for half an hour for 22 useful runs, and finally Dan Hodder occupied the other end whilst Will scored. Queries ended on 188 for 4 and won the match by 6 wickets.
We thank the Free Foresters for coming over to Dauntsey’s School to play the fixture, and of course to the groundsman Tom for his excellent work on the wicket. It is a wonderful place to play cricket and we are very lucky and privileged to be able to do so.
The next fixture will be against Farley CC on the 5th August, and Jon Moore is the match manager.
