Queries vs Dauntsey’s School 1st XI

The School bowled well and restricted the Queries top and early middle order batsmen such that there was only 112 runs on the board at lunch, after 37 overs – and 5 wickets down. A late flourish from skipper Joe Wookey [66] and Simon Campbell [25] helped to pull the score up to 234 at the declaration after 63 overs. The Queries challenge was then the lack of bowling. Ben McGowan got through 14 overs taking 1 for 55: and the only other bowlers to take a wicket were Cameron Garbutt [5-0-29-1] and Joe Wookey [2.4-0-26-1]. Jack Grant, after a hesitant start, batted a fantastic innings and carried his bat for 108. Taken together with the 19 overs he bowled, taking 3 for 59, he thoroughly deserved his man of the match award. The School ran out comfortable winners by 6 wickets, with 6 overs to spare.

Queries President David Haywood presented Jack Grant with his MotM award. He then drew the Queries attention to the fact that this would be the final time that Andy Palmer would supervise a School vs Queries fixture as he is retiring in 2 weeks time after 21 years as Master in Charge of Cricket. David thanked Andy for his wonderful hospitality, organisation, encouragement and involvement over so many years and so many annual fixtures, and made a presentation to him on behalf of the Wiltshire Queries.
