Match Result – Rained Off at Hinton Charterhouse

It was a pity that the rained intervened in this popular annual match however perhaps it saved some Queries bacon! Having won the toss skipper Jack Bramwell elected to bat on a real ‘sticky dog’ track that misbehaved a lot. After 1-7, 2-8, 3-8 and then 4-8 in just 3 overs, it was shock horror time. Thankfully Dan Hodder and Jack Bramwell steadied the ship, Dan making a painstaking 18 and Jack a valiant 61 before both were caught. We were 93-6.  Guest player Terry Gilmour and James Williams enjoyed the introduction of some seam bowling to score valuable runs and get us to 140 when James was caught. Terry tried to marshal the tail, making a useful 41 himself, when skipper Jack declared at 169 for 9. The remainder of the day was marred by rain interruptions and play was finally abandoned with HCCC on 96 for 2, and what a wise decision it was because soon after the heavens opened and it rained cats and dogs. Luckily by them we were in the comfort of the pavilion enjoying a beer and looking forward to a delicious bbq. Thanks to HCCC for their ever-pleasant hospitality and good sportsmanship.
