Club President David Haywood made it to Bruton yesterday and was able to witness the Queries lose to King’s by 6 wickets. The Queries set off at a canter with Adam Batisson and Tom Churchill scoring 70 off the first 10 but once they were out we struggled against some excellent School bowling. James Roue, Joe Dorgan and Jake Bunday made something of it, but the remainder declined and we were all out for 144.
Our opening bowlers, Joe Dorgan and Sam Ellis bowled quickly. Sam hurls the ball like a javelin off 4 paces at something like 70mph, and Joe D remains a class act. The School openers needed no little skill and bravery to survive. Nick Bunday snuck in an over of military medium before tea and clean bowled one opener. Joe Dorgan then laid waste to the middle order and the School was 47 for 4 however the opener Jay was still there batting with great composure and skill, and he was joined by a friend who had already taken 6 wickets! They sauntered home with lots of overs and time to spare, and we had lost by 6 wickets.
Many thanks to Bruton and to Nick Bunday for looking after us so well. The new pavilion is particularly splendid and the officials changing facilities are the best in the West country.
